Und wie ihr mir erklärt habt, waren die Thugs-Sektenmitglieder in ihren Heimatdörfern vielfach gute Handwerker, die – nebst ihrer Morderei an Mitmenschen – ein gutes Leben führten. Jedes Jahr jedoch verliessen die Kali-Sektierer ihr Dorf, um für einige Wochen eine ‹Pilgerreise› durchzuführen, die dazu diente, weit weg von ihrer Heimat ihren rituellen Morden zu frönen. Damit war vor der ‹Pilgerreise› auch eine Opferung verbunden, bei der die Thugs ein Schaf bei lebendigem Leib massakrierten und mit einem blutbeschmierten und mit Blumen verzierten Bild sowie mit der Beigabe einer Breithacke, einem Messer und einer Seidenschlinge der Mördergöttin Kali huldigten. Ihre Spezialität war dabei ja, sich in kleineren Gruppen reisender Händler oder Pilger anzuschliessen, um sie dann während der Reise zu ermorden, eben mit den Seidenschnüren zu erdrosseln und dann auszurauben. Und da diese Thugs-Morderei weitum bekannt war, schmeichelten sie sich bei den Händlern und Pilgern dadurch ein, indem sie vorgaben, ihnen beim Schutz gegen die Thugs beizustehen. Dann aber warteten die Thugs-Mörder nur einen geeigneten Augenblick ab, um ihre Opfer zu erdrosseln. Und dies taten sie, indem sie diesen die Seidenschlinge um den Hals legten und sie dann – mit flüsternden Worten nach Kalis Aufmerksamkeit flehend – ritualmässig ruckartig zuzogen und die Todeskandidaten erdrosselten. Dass die Thugs nach der Tötung ihre Opfer mit Messern und Breithacken verstümmelten und zerhackten, wie sie das mit dem Opferschaf taten, das gehörte zum Sektenritual, um einerseits der ‹Göttin des Todes› etwas zum Wohlgefallen zu tun, andererseits jedoch auch, um eine Identifizierung der Opfer zu verhindern.
