Weil ich mich früher einmal etwas mit der Ornithologie beschäftigt habe, weiss ich, dass diese Vögel in der Schweiz eigentlich rar sind und in Fichtenwäldern leben, wobei sie jedoch im Norden von Europa und auch anderswo in Nadelwäldern häufiger vorkommen. Der Vogel ist etwa 20 bis 22 Zentimeter gross, und das Gefieder des knapp buntspechtgrossen Baumspechtes weist keine Rot- oder Rosatöne auf.
